The St Mary Lake Integrated Watershed Management Plan (IWMP) was prepared to provide the Salt Spring Island community with a technically-audited series of appropriate actions to improve watershed health and raw water quality in St Mary Lake (SML).
Preparation of the Plan was given urgency by a sequence of toxic blooms in the lake in recent years which resulted in ‘no-swim’ advisories from Vancouver Island Health. The Plan is a result of years of involvement and participation of residents, stakeholders, and community organizations, as well as the several agencies that constitute SSIWPA.
